Patrick Rills

 About

I’m Patrick Rills, a coder in Boston, MA originally from Baton Rouge, LA. I’ve worked in technology and software for over 20 years in various roles from network administrator to project manager, but mainly as a full stack developer specializing in mobile apps and UX.

I’m currently the VP of Product at Lose It!, the premier mobile-based weight loss app which since 2009 has helped over 30 million users lose over 100 million pounds and is consistently a top health and fitness app in Apple's App Store. I lead on the iOS team and am instrumental in designing new features and improving the user experience.

In my spare time, I create my own iOS apps under the banner of Big Blue Fly. So far, I've released two apps: Duffy, an elegant steps complication for your Apple Watch (which is also open source), and Squiddle, a fun way to doodle and remind yourself on the go.

I’ve also written professionally and independently produced graphic novels. I published my first graphic novel, "Like That," illustrated by Allen Gladfelter, to great critical response and national distribution. I also directed a short film, "Peter Parker's First Day," which was an official selection in the GeekFest Film Festival in 2022.

Previously, I have worked as a freelance writer in comedy, journalism and comic books. While living in Louisiana, I was a freelance entertainment journalist and critic for the Baton Rouge newspaper, The Advocate, where I reviewed movies and covered local events and film festivals. I also co-hosted and co-wrote a film review television show called 2themovies.
